The property which will be most effected by any negative impacts from TETRA is one of the Harriet Davis Seaside Holiday Trust properties. Trust founders Mr and Mrs Davis both attended the Penally Meeting and vocally supported the community’s strong stand against the proposal.

The Wheelabout House which is specially adapted to make it ideal for use by families with disabled children, is within a few metres of the proposed mast site.

Speaking to Pembrokeshiretv.com last night, Mrs Kit Davis of the Trust said that “We are very concerned, not just about the perceived health impacts, but about the knock on effect this may have on the Trust itself.

“Wheelabout house was built and specially adapted using funds raised by public donation and grant aid. If our flagship property cannot get custom because of TETRA concerns then the trust may face severe financial problems. It may even have to close.”

But Mrs Davis drew considerable heart from the high attendance at the meeting and swore that the trust would not give up without a fight.

The Harriet Davis Trust was founded by Harriet’s parents. Harriet suffered from a rare degenerative metabolic disease. She was unable to speak, and had lost most of her motor abilities. With difficulty she could use a word chart and make use of an electric wheelchair.

Harriet died at the age of eleven, but her parents vowed that the obvious pleasure that Harriet had derived from trips to the seaside should be made available to other families.

On their trips to Pembrokeshire and elsewhere, Mr and Mrs Davis became increasingly aware that families with disabled children were simply not catered for. Their determination and dedication has led to the establishment of three holiday houses for disabled children.

The Wheelabout is the latest acquisition. The cottage has been lovingly laid out for use by wheelchair users and even the garden has been adapted. A small heated indoor pool, combined with stunning views towards Gower and Caldey island have made the Wheelabout a firm favourite for families with children who can often expect to have a limited life span and are in need of constant care and attention.

Kit Davis said “We will do what we can to beat off this threat, but we are a trust with very little financial resources.”

Mr Davis planned to approach Charles Birt land agents today, Wednesday, as they are agents for the land-lord in whose field the mast is to be built. This may be a significant move as land-owners, rather than mast operators have been successfully sued elsewhere for the effects of masts that they have allowed on their land.

The TETRA proposal at Gumfreyston was eventually withdrawn after the local landlord changed his mind about the proposal.
